TANKERITE 500 GR PETROL TANKS UP TO 20 - 25 LITERS / PROTECTIVE TREATMENT / ANTICORROSION 500 GR FOR VESPA APE LAMBRETTA Permanent anticorrosive cycle for the internal remediation of car and motorcycle tanks. Tankerite is a two-component resin specifically formulated to resist hydrocarbons such as petrol, diesel and oils, forming an internal anticorrosive coating for car and motorcycle tanks, steel or concrete tanks. It is rich in passivators, rust inhibitors and elastomers which give it exceptional flexibility, an essential characteristic to compensate for the expansion of the tanks. The GUM version, created to cover tanks made of difficult materials, is considerably more elastic than the traditional one and can be used on aluminium, copper, various plastics, stainless steel, glass and carbon fibre, possibly with the aid of a primer to increase adhesion. Tankerite is a two-component resin specifically formulated to resist petrol by forming an internal anti-corrosive coating of tanks. Free from chromium and lead, it contains zinc phosphates, which are essential for blocking oxidation processes for a long time. For this reason too, our article stands out from similar, cheaper products. For tanks up to 20 - 25 litres - containing: 0.5 kg of resin 125 g of catalyst 750 ml of rust remover acid. Catalysis ratio 1:4 by weight Possible solvent: 90° denatured alcohol Instructions for the correct use of our TANKERITE anticorrosive sealant cycle 1) The preparation phase After removing the petrol taps, plug the holes with wooden, cork or pressed cloth pins. Protect the fuel cap in a light polyethylene sheath or similar. 2) The rust removal phase Introduce the rust removing acid and shake every now and then. In the case of heavy internal encrustations, it is advisable to also combine a mechanical cleaning activity by introducing a chain or old sharp bolts and shaking vigorously to break up the dirt. It is also useful to use a rotating metal whip to connect to the drill, available in our catalogue. The rust normally disappears after a few hours, depending on its state of progress. Once the action is complete, empty the tank and rinse thoroughly with running water. Then dry with compressed air or with the help of a further wash of 90° ethyl alcohol (alcohol being very hygroscopic, it is able to absorb all the residual humidity with rapid evaporation). In the case of tanks that have contained oily mixtures or additives, also repeatedly proceed with a degreasing wash with nitro thinner, acetone, or products with strong degreasing power. To avoid new oxidation processes, proceed as soon as possible to the encapsulation phase. It is recommended, during breaks in work, to always vent any formation of gaseous vapors, and not to hermetically seal the tanks. 3) The encapsulation phase The pre-dosed kit is ready to use, but it is still possible to use a partial quantity of product depending on the various needs (very small tanks and differentiated treatments). Respect the correct percentage of catalysis by weight, i.e. 1 part of catalyst mixed with 4 parts of resin (use a precision scale for this purpose). Use 25 g of catalyst for every 100 g of resin. Shake the catalyst container well before use. It is recommended to mix the catalyst and enamel vigorously for a few minutes using a flat spatula, carefully scraping the sides and bottom of the jar. It is also advisable to transfer everything into a second container in order to mix the lower part of the resin with the higher part to have a well-blended compound. In this phase, you can dilute the compound to make it more fluid, with 90° ethyl alcohol (about 5-10%). After pouring the compound into the tank, it is necessary to rotate it several times and very slowly on all sides to allow for homogeneous internal distribution. Tilt the tank forward to avoid blocking the fuel holes with drainage resin (in which case it will be sufficient to proceed with its removal with a drill bit) and let it dry at room temperature. The TANKERITE cycle dries in 24-48 hours (depending on the temperature, ideally around 15/25°) but cross-links thoroughly after several days. DO NOT USE PETROL BEFORE A WEEK! NB: Carry out the treatment only after any chrome or nickel plating process. PRACTICAL ADVICE In the event of cracks or very small holes (more serious damage should be resolved with tinning or two-component filler) apply a pad of adhesive tape to prevent leaks and lay the tank down so as to thicken the drainage resin on the most damaged part. The product is elastic, sealant and can consolidate even inconsistent and thinned sheet metal. However, avoid excessive thicknesses. TANKERITE has been designed to withstand possible vibrations and dimensional instability caused by thermal stress during operation. It is possible to carry out multiple treatments inside the same tank, even at different times and with the product perfectly catalysed (provided that no oily residues are left between one treatment and the next). When treating large tanks (cars, boats, agricultural vehicles, etc.) equipped with bulkheads and anti-rinse wells, it is best to dilute the catalysed compound with 90° ethyl alcohol (5 -10% max). It should also be borne in mind that before carrying out a treatment on tanks of this type, it is necessary to completely remove any complementary accessories such as suction probes, level gauges, fuel reserve warning lights, etc. In the case of compensation vent pipes, even of small section (whose internal accessibility cannot be prevented with direct systems such as caps, screws or pads), it will be advisable to proceed with their cleaning with jets of compressed air before the resin reticulates. Also tilt the tank so that the drainage resin does not block the communication holes of any internal bulkheads. TANKERTIE resin is normally used in sheet metal or fibreglass tanks. TANKERITE resin is normally used in fibreglass, composite or laminate tanks, roughened by oxidation. In case of use in brass, copper, aluminium, plastic tanks, or new tanks with very shiny surfaces, it is important to roughen them, with mechanical actions or proceed with the use of the special adhesion promoting primer. GENERAL TECHNICAL INFORMATION Do not use the product at temperatures below +10°; the cold paralyses any chemical catalysis process and makes the resin excessively thixotropic and dense. In which case, to make it more fluid, it is recommended to heat it (without a flame) and dilute it with 90° ethyl alcohol (5-10% max). Washing tools and containers should be done with nitro solvent. DO NOT THROW RESIDUES INTO THE SEWERS. The resin has no expiry date but the catalyst lasts approximately 2 years from the date of purchase. No chemical component of the TANKERITE kit or of the auxiliary products recommended for the treatment can damage existing paint or chrome plating by brief contact. In the event of involuntary soiling of the parts (including threads, fuel caps, etc.) it will be sufficient to clean with alcohol. In the case of use at high temperatures (above 30°) it may be useful to cool the mixing container to slow down the catalysis process. In fact, in full summer sun, or at high ambient temperatures, an immediate isothermal cross-linking reaction could follow, preventing the use of the resin. If it is necessary to slow down the catalyzing process of the mixed product, it will be sufficient to park it in the refrigerator for the desired time. The TANKERITE product is normally supplied in three standard kits (see the product catalog).
